Working toward Version 1.0

Version history.

WildLives is currently Version 0.3. This record begins with the first public build. Planned work stays on the Roadmap.

Version 0.1 — First public build

This was the first incomplete public version of Lion’s Life. It was playable, but it was not meant to be the finished or stable game.

  • Playable lion and world: One playable adult male lion in a large, open savanna built for free exploration and long-form play.
  • Movement and camera: Walking, stalking, sprinting, directional attacks, smooth turning, an orbit camera, camera drag, and adjustable zoom.
  • Everyday actions: Contextual interactions for drinking, feeding, resting, sleeping, marking territory, opening the journal, and checking the Life Calendar.
  • Survival needs: Health, hunger, thirst, and energy that change over time and respond to movement, hunting, feeding, drinking, resting, and sleep.
  • Healing and recovery: Rest and sleep restore the lion when food and hydration are high enough, making preparation part of recovering from a fight.
  • Living conditions: Weather, a day-and-night cycle, seven water sites, visible water depth, slower movement in water, and extra risk in deeper water.
  • Wildlife roster: Zebra, wildebeest, African buffalo, giraffes, elephants, rival lions, named pride adults, and cubs, all presented at recognizable relative scales.
  • Hunting and animal behavior: Prey awareness and flight, defensive wildlife, rival-lion aggression, attacks, kills, limited feeding, and non-graphic remains.
  • Pride life: Named pride members, direction tracking, daily bonding, membership thresholds, territory marking, and a journal that follows the lion’s life.
  • Family and reproduction: Adult lionesses, animated cubs, fertility dates, mating requirements, pregnancy, births, litter records, and recorded parents.
  • Life and lineage: Aging, death, a Life Calendar, and continuation through a surviving player-born cub.
  • Saves: Three browser-local save slots, autosave, versioned save data, and controls for saving, loading, and continuing a life on the same browser profile.
  • Player settings: Music controls, high contrast, reduced camera motion, fullscreen, camera zoom, and readable in-game guidance.
  • Animation and presentation: Male-lion walking, lying down, sleeping, and standing alongside animated wildlife, grass, foliage, water, and lighting.
  • Public website and support: The homepage, Play page, Field Guide, Credits and attributions, legal pages, feedback access, analytics, search metadata, robots rules, and sitemap.
